As Michael Horton, Jr. on Days of Our Lives , actor Wesley Eure has gained his fair share of popularity. However, he is also known for his work in the children’s adventure series Land of the Lost . The 1974 show was produced by Sid and Marty Krofft, earning its place in history as it ran for three seasons on NBC. Since it seems as though we’re living in the age of comebacks, the cult-classic Land of the Lost has been picked up to become a film. Production began last year, and it’s set to be released next month. Two of the show’s original stars – Wesley Eure and Kathy Coleman – have been tapped for cameos in the big screen version.

Since Alison Sweeney stepped into the role of Sami in 1993, Sami has been showcased as Days of our Lives ‘ primary trouble maker and “the girl you loved to hate” through her lying and scheming. Sweeney’s portrayal of “Salem’s resident bad girl” has earned her various fan awards, including five Soap Opera Digest Awards, and a Special Fan Award for "America’s Favorite Villain" at the 2002 Daytime Emmy Award ceremony. Recently, however, Sweeney’s character got pregnant with EJ ( James Scott ), who had sexually assaulted her in the past. She never thought she would see her character in this kind of storyline involving EJ especially since she wasn’t really keen on the two getting romantically involved in the past.

It seems that the firing of major soap stars is just the tip of the iceberg. Following reports that veterans Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn have been let go from Days of our Lives , rumors have surged that at least five other names are on their way out. According to Soaps.com, Days of our Lives will be losing yet another member of its cast and this time, it’s Blake Berris . Unlike Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans) and Drake Hogestyn’s (John Black) unexpected departure from Days of our Lives , which has certainly created much controversy in the soap circuit, Berris’ exit doesn’t really come as a huge surprise seeing that it was recently revealed that his character Nick was Trent’s killer.

Another soap vet will reportedly leave The Young and the Restless . According to Soap Opera Digest , longtime cast member Don Diamont will be departing from the daytime drama in early 2009. Nothing official has been announced at this point but an insider reports that it’s a done deal and details of his character’s exit are being kept under the dark. Following his first major acting role as Carlo Forenza on Days of our Lives , Diamont joined The Young and the Restless as the opportunistic businessman Bradley Carlton in 1985. He was temporarily replaced by Russell Todd in 1993 and left the show in 1996 but returned again two years later. He became the first daytime drama actor to receive the honor of being chosen as one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world by People Magazine in 1990 and in 2006, he was voted as number 1 on the Sexiest Soap Hunks of All Time list at the Shrine to the Soap Hunks.

Last week, NBC gave an unexpected statement that rattled many Days of our Lives fans. The announcement reads “ Days of our Lives has decided to rest the characters of John Black and Marlena Evans” and has left fans even more worried about the future direction of the soap despite the fact that it has been renewed through September of 2010. Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn , who plays Marlena Evans and John Black respectively, are soap veterans whose presence on Days of our Lives have significantly affected the show’s direction. So it’s only natural that most supporters of the 43-year-old soap aren’t happy with the producers’ decision to lay off the major stars.
