The Latest Daytime Soap Opera News
Frequent casting changes are something soap opera fans are used to by now. Almost every month, there are reports of who’s to come and who’s to go, and more often than not, viewers are able to adapt to the absence of the old and the presence of the new. But when it comes to cutting out major stars whose existence on the show have greatly affected other characters and the general direction of the program, it’s quite difficult to imagine how fans will react to the big changes. According to TV Guide , the sands in the hourglass have run out for Days of our Lives veterans Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn as both have been fired from the 43-year-old soap. NBC made the announcement in a statement Wednesday as the network deals with budget cuts.

Having recently celebrated its 43rd anniversary last November 8, the show seemed unstoppable. However, fans have constantly speculated that the days for Days of Our Lives have ended. The network has announced that they have just signed an 18-month deal with Sony Pictures TV. This merits a collective cheer from fans worldwide, but the good news doesn’t stop there. Salem will soon lose yet another resident. As reported earlier this month, Kristen Renton, who currently plays Morgan Hollingsworth, has been let go on Days of our Lives , less than one year into her four-year contract. While the news of her exit may be a blow to many fans, the program’s decision to scrap her on-screen alter ego has more than caught the actress by surprise, especially since she’ll be leaving unexpectedly this week. Renton joined Days of our Lives just last year as the Alpha Chi Theta sorority sister of Chelsea and Stephanie at Salem University. She wasn’t supposed to be with the soap for more than a week or two but found herself in budding plot as her character quickly forged a friendship with Chelsea and Stephanie, eventually dated Max Brady much to the dismay of Stephanie, who still harbored feelings for Max, and was involved in the Ford Decker storyline. Most recently, she was seen in a budding relationship with Philip that seems to be deteriorating as she discovers Paul’s involvement with her father.

Soap fans will soon have to bid farewell to Trent Robbins given that his portrayer, Roscoe Born, is leaving Days of our Lives this fall. A show spokeswoman was able to confirm the actor’s departure and informed Soap Opera Network that "Roscoe will continue to have story well into the end of September." The Emmy Award-nominated actor joined Days of our Lives in May as the biological father of Max Brady ( Darin Brooks ), whom he abused as a child. He returned to Salem 22 years later and is now dean of the physics department at the University. He then re-entered Max’s life by awarding Nick Fallon ( Blake Berris ) a grant for his "work" on a fuel cell. Unbeknownst to Trent, Max was responsible for the majority of Nick’s design and because of this, Max got frustrated. Trent offered to pay Max off in order to keep his dark past a secret while Max only wanted Trent to admit that he was abusive and to take responsibility for his actions. Eventually, Max learned that Trent carried the photo of a young woman in his wallet who may by Max’s half-sister, Melanie Layton.
