The Latest Daytime Soap Opera News
Frequent casting changes are something soap opera fans are used to by now. Almost every month, there are reports of who’s to come and who’s to go, and more often than not, viewers are able to adapt to the absence of the old and the presence of the new. But when it comes to cutting out major stars whose existence on the show have greatly affected other characters and the general direction of the program, it’s quite difficult to imagine how fans will react to the big changes. According to TV Guide , the sands in the hourglass have run out for Days of our Lives veterans Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn as both have been fired from the 43-year-old soap. NBC made the announcement in a statement Wednesday as the network deals with budget cuts.

When a television show has been up and running since the 1960s, you know it means business. Apparently, Days of Our Lives has followed suit. Having recently celebrated its 43rd anniversary last November 8, the show seemed unstoppable. However, fans have constantly speculated that the days for Days of Our Lives have ended. Many believed that their beloved soap opera would no longer exist in the near future, but all accounts of that have been disproved. According to NBC, Days of Our Lives will simply keep going. The network has announced that they have just signed an 18-month deal with Sony Pictures TV. This merits a collective cheer from fans worldwide, but the good news doesn’t stop there. It means that the recent contract that Days has, which runs out in March 2009, will extend even further. The soap will definitely be running until around September of 2010.

Salem will soon lose yet another resident. As reported earlier this month, Kristen Renton, who currently plays Morgan Hollingsworth, has been let go on Days of our Lives , less than one year into her four-year contract. While the news of her exit may be a blow to many fans, the program’s decision to scrap her on-screen alter ego has more than caught the actress by surprise, especially since she’ll be leaving unexpectedly this week. Renton joined Days of our Lives just last year as the Alpha Chi Theta sorority sister of Chelsea and Stephanie at Salem University. She wasn’t supposed to be with the soap for more than a week or two but found herself in budding plot as her character quickly forged a friendship with Chelsea and Stephanie, eventually dated Max Brady much to the dismay of Stephanie, who still harbored feelings for Max, and was involved in the Ford Decker storyline. Most recently, she was seen in a budding relationship with Philip that seems to be deteriorating as she discovers Paul’s involvement with her father.
