The Latest Daytime Soap Opera News
Last month, BuddyTV reported that the role of Abby Carlton is being aged and will eventually be recast. This means that fans will soon have to say goodbye to Darcy Rose Byrnes, who has played Abby since the conception of the character on The Young and the Restless in 2003, and will soon have to welcome a new actress who would fill in the shoes of the daughter of Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) and Victor Newman ( Eric Braeden ). According to Soaps.com, The Young and the Restless has cast Hayley Erin to play the aged Abby. Born in Los Angeles, California, Erin is no stranger to show business. The 14-year-old actress has had roles on Malcolm in the Middle , The District, The King of Queens , Big Love , and Two and a Half Men . She has also recurrently appeared on Mad TV as Dakota Fanning, and as Young Emily on Emily’s Reasons Why Not .

Best known to daytime fans as Katherine Chancellor, Jeanne Cooper has reportedly renewed her contract on The Young and the Restless . This means that the 80-year-old actress will remain on the CBS soap for at least three more years. Cooper’s renewal comes in spite of numerous reports of budget cuts in the daytime circuit that saw several highly-paid longtime cast members being laid off. This has created much buzz in the soap world.

Another soap vet will reportedly leave The Young and the Restless . According to Soap Opera Digest , longtime cast member Don Diamont will be departing from the daytime drama in early 2009. Nothing official has been announced at this point but an insider reports that it’s a done deal and details of his character’s exit are being kept under the dark. Following his first major acting role as Carlo Forenza on Days of our Lives , Diamont joined The Young and the Restless as the opportunistic businessman Bradley Carlton in 1985. He was temporarily replaced by Russell Todd in 1993 and left the show in 1996 but returned again two years later. He became the first daytime drama actor to receive the honor of being chosen as one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world by People Magazine in 1990 and in 2006, he was voted as number 1 on the Sexiest Soap Hunks of All Time list at the Shrine to the Soap Hunks.
